Dark shapes walk their dogs

through misty, frozen meadows

it's 2 degrees C.

Thirteen hundred deaths

from Covid winter lockdown

in twenty-four hours.

Granddads, grandmothers.

Our older generation

is being winnowed.

NHS workers

strain and put themselves at risk

to bend Covid's arc.

All hope rests on the vaccines.
